Designing premium home gyms in Marbella
Interview with Olivia O., CEO and Head of Design at OMEO Design and CCO at Palmeras Property Development.
The home gym has shifted from a functional afterthought to a defined part of residential design. In high-end homes, it is no longer separated from the architecture — it is embedded within it.
For Olivia O., this shift is now a defining part of how clients approach new projects. Demand has grown steadily in recent years, driven by a broader focus on wellbeing and a stronger expectation that every space in the home is intentional.
“Clients are now including the gym in the initial design brief,” she explains. “That allows us to consider it properly — how it sits within the home, how it connects to other spaces, and how it supports the way they live and train.”
The result is a shift in approach. The gym is no longer a room assigned at the end of a project. It is part of the architectural thinking from the beginning.
Function and form, designed together
A home gym carries a dual requirement: it must perform as a training environment and integrate seamlessly into a wider interior concept.
Olivia O.’s design approach focuses on this balance. Materials, lighting, and spatial flow are treated with the same care as any other part of the home, while the functional requirements of training are addressed through close collaboration with specialists.
“We design the atmosphere and the spatial experience,” she says. “But we work closely with partners who understand the technical and functional requirements of training spaces.”
Precision in practice
That collaboration becomes critical when design meets performance.
Working with Eleiko brings a technical foundation to the process — from early layout planning through to equipment selection and installation. It ensures that design intent and training functionality are aligned from the start.
Eleiko’s approach is rooted in precision engineering and long-term durability, developed through decades of experience in strength training environments. In residential settings, this translates into equipment that supports a wide range of training styles while maintaining a clear, space-efficient presence within the architecture.
“The collaboration allows us to focus on the design language of the space, while knowing the training environment will perform exactly as it should,” Olivia O. explains.
This division of expertise allows both sides to operate at a high level: design clarity on one side, engineering precision on the other.
A gym within a cave spa
One recent project illustrates this approach clearly.
A gym was integrated into a cave spa environment, defined by natural stone and a strong architectural identity. The training space sits behind a glass partition, maintaining visual connection with the pool area while establishing a distinct functional zone.
Natural materials extend into the gym itself, creating continuity across the space. Mirrors are carefully positioned between stone formations, balancing usability with atmosphere.
Despite a compact footprint, the gym supports full training functionality through a considered Eleiko strength solution designed to balance versatility, efficiency, and long-term use.
At its centre is a Prestera system, configured as a squat and bench station with integrated dip attachment, split squat support, and landmine functionality. This forms a flexible base for a wide range of strength movements within a single footprint.
An adjustable bench extends training options across pressing and dumbbell-based work, while a curated selection of free weights and kettlebells is supported by smart, accessible storage to maintain clarity and flow within the space.
A compact cardio element is also included for warm-up and general conditioning, reflecting the broader approach to the villa — where strength training sits alongside outdoor activity, recovery, and mobility work within a wider wellness environment.
A shared standard
The partnership between OMEO Design and Eleiko is built on a shared expectation: that performance and design are not separate considerations. Both must hold.
“We rely on trusted specialists,” Olivia O. says. “In gym environments, that expertise is essential. It allows us to focus on creating spaces that feel unique, while ensuring they also work at the highest level.”
The outcome is consistent: spaces that are visually resolved, technically sound, and built for long-term use.
