The PEAC empowers the next generation of strength professionals through purposeful design and world-class training facilities.
The University of Portsmouth set out to create a state-of-the-art facility that combined the functionality of an educational environment with the performance standards of an elite training space. The goal was to design a gym that could seamlessly transition between teaching practical classes and supporting high-level athletic development.
At the heart of the new Portsmouth Elite Athlete Centre (PEAC) is the Eleiko Prestera system, fully utilised across eight strength stations. The space features four Prestera Power Racks and four custom Double Half Racks — with one side of each dedicated entirely to storage. All racks were finished in a custom blue colourway to reflect the University’s identity, with branding applied throughout to create a cohesive and professional environment.
To maximise functionality, Prestera storage solutions — including custom elements like column bar storage — were incorporated to keep equipment easily accessible and space efficient. The cable systems include a Prestera Cable Cross and a four-station multistation offering lat pulldown and low row stations, all colour-matched to the scheme.
Further custom touches include branded IWF Competition Plates, Evo Dumbbells, and a University of Portsmouth-branded turf track — making this one of Eleiko’s most bespoke installations to date in the UK.
“Eleiko’s reputation as a world leader in strength and conditioning gave us complete confidence throughout the project,” said Joe Moore, Programme Lead (Sport and Health Sciences) . “Their team engaged with every stakeholder — from our athletes and students to the architects — ensuring the equipment was fully integrated into the space, not simply added at the end. Their ability to deliver premium, custom-branded solutions has created a facility with real identity and lasting value.”
The result is a flexible, professional-grade environment where education and elite training intersect. Students benefit from increased opportunities to gain hands-on learning experience, coach their peers, and train with the same elite-level equipment they’ll encounter in their future careers. For coaching staff, the space supports more efficient use of time and space, allowing multiple athletes and groups to train simultaneously.
“The facility ensures we provide students not only with the theoretical knowledge to succeed but also the vocational skills they’ll need in strength and conditioning careers,” said Moore. “It’s a truly life-changing experience for them.”
The partnership with Eleiko has grown beyond equipment provision. Shared values and aligned visions have opened conversations around deeper collaboration — extending support to the broader student community and the local area.
“We were very keen to create a space with long-term impact,” Moore concluded. “During our meetings with Eleiko, it became clear we shared a vision — and we’re now exploring future collaborations to celebrate and support our students' journeys.”
