Breeding high performance at the University of Edinburgh.

Refurbished in summer 2022, The University of Edinburgh’s Performance Gym offers a state-of-the-art and private training space for elite student athletes. Hired by national and international athletes and teams throughout the year, the Performance Gym refurb intends to meet the needs of the University’s growing sporting talent, inspire the next generation of student athletes, and provide visiting elite’s a first-class lifting experience.

The modernised space now offers Prestera – Eleiko’s best-in-class rack series, developed with the precision of elite athletes in mind. Double Half Racks, Half Racks and six new Power rack strength training stations, complete with cable systems and integrated smart storage solutions, will support a wide range of strength training needs at the gym. A free standing XF80 Rig outfitted with a range of attachments adds a new dimension to functional fitness training for athletes. Offering variety and versatility, the unit features seven pull-up stations, four of which are appropriate for muscle-ups, and three squat stations. Other strength training tools include, three full sets of Evo Dumbbells, speciality benches including a Seal Row, Sport Training Plates and more.

Alongside the new, state-of-the-art strength training equipment, a dedicated performance physio space has also been created within the gym alongside new athlete screening and performance testing equipment.

The gym design features inspiring sporting icons with a connection to the University of Edinburgh. Those featured, who were chosen in consultation with the student athletes who will use the space, include University of Edinburgh Sports Hall of Fame inductees, Sir Chris Hoy, Dr Polly Swann, and Sarah Robertson as well as other iconic figures from the past, present, and future of sport at Edinburgh.
