With this new apparel launch, we are using tried and tested traditional solutions to create a durable collection using sustainable materials and production, on and off the weightlifting platform.
The 1957 Collection is a tribute to the early years of weightlifting. The colours are a nod to the Olympic colours originating from the bumper plates we started producing in Halmstad, Sweden, in the 60s. Learn more about our history.
The limited range is crafted in Portugal of carefully selected organic cotton, using traditional production methods for long lasting performance, on and off the platform.
The Fabrics: durable, classic and sustainable
At Eleiko, we are known to make products that last in part by using the finest materials, the same principle we have brought to our new apparel line.
We have chosen to work with organic cotton. To make the garment as durable as possible, we have looked back and used traditional knitting methods, called American Terry Knitting, where a diagonal knit in combination with short cotton fibres creates an exceptionally durable material.
The fabric knit is made to be worn directly against the skin and is moisture wicking. The stonewashed garments feel soft; the pre-wash means you don't have to worry that the material shrinking.
Two-needle stitching is made to last
Two needle stitches, a durable construction throughout the garments, ensure the side body seams, and the seams in the sleeves and collar strong and long lasting.
Eyelets are sewn instead of metal or plastic to create a durable product that will withstand decades of use.
The 1957 collection is made with American loop back terry where the two yarns are twisted and knitted along with a loop-by-one loose tension thread. The fabric has thread loops at the backside to provide extra absorbency for moisture wicking and give comfort and ventilating properties.
The engineering on the loop back terry gives jersey effect on the outside and a soft feel on the inside.
Making garments using this traditional method takes about twice the time compared to regular garment production.
Timeless fit, on and off the platform
Cut and crafted with a roomy fit, the designs align with classic ideals. The drop shoulder design means the shoulder seam sits below your natural shoulder – a design element that also allows for more flexibility in finding your prefered the fit and styling.
We have launched the collection as unisex with sizes from XXS to XXL. Select the size you usually wear for a generous fit. Downsize for a fit that is close to the body. If you want an oversize fit, choose a size larger than your usual size.
