Sustainability at Eleiko
Building the future of strength with a focus on quality materials, durable design, and expanded in house manufacturing.
For over 60 years, Halmstad-based Eleiko has worked to make people stronger so that they perform better, in sports and in life. With a focus on quality, innovation and sustainability, Eleiko delivers strength equipment and training to international championships, training facilities and individuals worldwide. Since 1957, the holistic view of sustainability has been an important key in Eleiko's success and permeates the entire business, from raw materials to manufacturing processes. Eleiko is ISO 14001 certified and participates in the United Nations Global Compact, a network that works on the basis of the UN's global goals for sustainable development.
"We put a strong focus on sustainable design and work to have a positive impact on both our industry and society at large. We choose environmentally friendly materials for our products and collaborate with companies and organizations that have a clear focus on sustainability. Eleiko also has an internal "Green Team" at the head office to drive our sustainability work forward," says Johan Arnerlind, Country Manager Sweden at Eleiko.
After making their mark in weightlifting over 60 years ago, Eleiko has since solidified their presence in several strength sports, in the gym world, in the military and now also with e-commerce for both B2B and B2C customers seeking best-in-class strength.
"Traditionally, we have been a B2B company, with professional sports and gyms as primary customers. Last year, we strengthened our position in the consumer market and launched our webshop after an accelerated development phase. This new channel has been important to be able to serve our customers and lifters with a new range especially adapted for home training, as a complement to training at the gym," Johan explains.
Two important elements of Eleiko's design philosophy are that the equipment must withstand use and last a long time.
"We use ultra-pure Swedish steel and produce a large part of the range in-house at our headquarters in Halmstad, Sweden, with the goal that Eleiko equipment will last a lifetime. The equipment is thoroughly tested, and we make large investments in product development, among other things, to get even more robust bars and to adapt our products for different areas of use and target groups. We also have plans to develop a fossil-free bar that meets new requirements for environmental sustainability," says Johan.
To meet the increased demand for strength equipment, the company has begun planning new logistics and production facilities.
"With a new logistics centre of 18,000 sqm, which will be an environmentally certified building, we take further steps in our sustainability work, as we will, among other things, invest in solar cells. One of our goals is to reduce electricity consumption by 20% by 2024. Eleiko's work to make the world stronger is about more than physical and mental strength for those who use our products - we also contribute to a stronger world environmentally, something evident in our company and our culture," Johan explains.
